BOWERS MFG. CO. - SURE FIRE TRENCH LIGHTER - World War II Memorabilia Item - (sorry SOLD)

This lighter is in exceptional condition, smooth operating, with no damage or rust. It is just as it came out of the pocket of a World War II Navy Pilot, who later gave up smoking and placed it in his box of military memories. The brass ring on the bottom is secure, the flint wheel moves freely and its spring is present. (It just needs a flint.)

The most unique thing about this lighter is the sliding outer shell that moves up to shield the flame from the wind, and then smoothly slides back down as the cap mechanism pivots to cover the wick, douse the flame and keep the wick dry. The little cap very appropriately resembles a miniature helmet. This lighter has its wick present also, so merely needs lighter fluid and a flint to be ready to resume duty at a campfire, or perhaps just be added to a collection of items from the past.

The Bowers Mfg. Co. I believe was started in 1928 in Kalamazoo, Michigan. We understand that they have not produced lighters for over 30 years. We can definitely date this lighter to the WWII period.

I try to describe the items on this site as accurately as possible; however since most of the items are either antique or at best vintage, due to their age, they are sold in "as is" condition.
