Lefton China Robin Figurines - Bisque Porcelain - Japan
The Lefton China Co was founded by George Zontan, who came to the Unites States from Hungary in 1939. He determined that there would be a sizeable market for quality porcelain china dishes and decorative pieces and proceeded to contract for them from Japan, long noted for lovely hand painted items. I cannot begin to imagine how many different items bore the Lefton Crown and familiar red and gold sticker. But I remember a number of pieces in our home as I was growing up in the 1950's.

Among the figurines, was this wonderful pair of Robins. These to figures are identical in position, although as the picture shows they can be placed to appear dissimilar. They are slightly over 4" tall, and are hand painted on porcelain bisque in beautifully intricate detail. On the bottom is the Lefton China in blue, gold and black, with red lettering "Lefton China. Hand Painted, Reg US Pat Office". Also "KW464 Red Robin". Both still have their Red and Gold Lefton's Japan label.

We have these listed as a pair; however, if you are interested in only one, please use the Contact tab on our Home page, and I will be happy to sell you only one. In our home they were used as a pair, on either side of a table centerpiece; however, many collectors would prefer a single figurine.

There is a date significance, I understand, regarding the color of the crown logo, whether the item's name is printed or hand written, and there are two different labels, reading "Lefton" or "Lefton's". I am not at all sure which markings indicate which dates. I do know that these were purchased new over a period of time during the 1950's.

I try to describe the items on this site as accurately as possible; however, due to their age, they are sold in "as is" condition. Please contact us with any questions, or to request additional pictures, or to contribute further information, by using the Contact tab on our Home page.
