This perfume atomizer, although probably only dating back to the 1950's, is a nice example of Crackle Glass.
The process for making this glass originates with the Venetian Glass Makers as far back as the 16th Century. The glass was first immersed in cold water, while it was in a molten hot state, thereby cracking it. Then it was reheated, and either molded or hand blown by the glass blower. The reheating sealed the cracks so that the outer had for the most part a smooth feel. This piece was molded, as evidenced by the two faint mold marks running vertically on either side. The surface feels almost totally smooth to the touch, with the exception of two crackles at the bottom of the base that have a slight feel to them.

The bottle is 4-1/2" tall with its cap in place, and 3-1/4" in diameter at the widest point It is in nice clean condition. The atomizer will work, and can be removed to fill the bottle with your favorite scent. It is a lovely decorative example of a very old type of elegant glassware.

I try to describe the items on this site as accurately as possible; however since most of the items are either antique or at least vintage, due to their age, they are sold in "as is" condition.
