This paperweight spoke to me from across a room, and was a must have. It has inspired me to begin searching through online videos, articles, etc. to learn how it was made. I am learning somewhat how "bubbles" are made, and even how those bubbles can have a hint of color of their own. And I am learning a bit about the "rods" of glass (that resemble hard candy I ate as a child). These are used to produce what is called a "millefiori" effect. And finally, I am learning how the glass crafter/sculptor often works with layers of molten glass to create his desired product.

As I examine this piece I find precisely spaced and placed bubbles, tinged with a raspberry coloring. These are not throughout the piece, but positioned around a middle layer, which surrounds the clear core. All of this is encased in a thick crystal clear glass into which the intricate millefiori pieces have been incorporated. I marvel at the skill and patience of the artist.

Not only are the multiple features of this paperweight unique, but the shape as well. Rather than the traditional sphere type, this one is a tapered block with a sturdy glass knob on top. I actually used it on my desk to weigh down papers, and the convenience of that handle made it far more than decorative. Picking up a paperweight can sometimes be quite awkward.

I try to describe the items on this site as accurately as possible; however since most of the items are either antique or at best vintage, due to their age, they are sold in "as is" condition.
