My weakness has always been in using different sets of dinnerware for various occasions. Thus over the years I have accumulated more fine china than I truly need. This is one of the lovely sets I am now seeking a new home for, I will be adding more china soon. This is an extremely lovely set of Kutani dinnerware. With 7-piece place settings for 8 people, plus some beautiful service pieces, it presents a spectacular table setting. Each place setting consists of a Dinner Plate, Soup Bowl, Salad Plate, Small Dessert Bowl, Bread and Butter Plate plus the cup and saucer. The serving pieces consist of a Large Platter, a Small Platter, a Gravy Boat, an Oval Bowl, and a lovely Covered Tureen or Vegetable Dish.

The pattern is soft green bamboo with 2 blue birds in flight. The pieces are bordered in a deep reddish or rust color with gold accents on both the border and the bamboo design.

The marking on the back of the cup is pictured in one of the photos. The simple two character Kutani marking is the only mark on this set. There is no indication that it was intended as an export item. I believe this set may date back to the early 1900's. It is my suspicion that it was purchased while the original owner was traveling in the Orient. It was not unusual at all for travelers to purchase such items abroad to use at home. I purchased the set some years back at an estate auction where many items had been brought back from Europe and Asia.
