Update: One of the visitors to our site has suggested that he thinks this set is a compiled set, rather than just as it might have originally been. He believes the cars vary from 50's to late 60's. We always appreciate input. We try hard not to misrepresent our items. With that in mind, we did a bit more research and have lowered the price on this set from $145 to the current price of $95. We feel that is still a fair price and takes into consideration that it may well be an accumulated set.

We recently acquired this set, and know very little about it, other than it was supposedly manufactured in 1953-1954, and appears to be in good used condition. Everything looks to be intact, the decals are clear, and the crane is even in working condition. The box is the only thing that shows damage, and it is definitely not in good condition, as the picture shows.

The set consists of: #400 Electric Locomotive - 0-4-0, with a 4-wheel Tender, marked New York Central. The cars include a maroon Erie Flat Car with blue Generator and grey pivoting Searchlight, plus a great NYC Crane Car, with a working grey crane mounted on a black Flatbed car. The crane pivots on the deck and the cable lowers and raises the hook, and can be locked in position. There may have been a wheel type handle that is not present on the crank. The crane bears the New York Central Systems decals. The Caboose is maroon and bears the NYC designation.

Also included are 20 pieces of 3-rail Track and 2 #309 Transformers. The track is both curved and straight and includes one 8" connector piece. The transformers are 25 watt - 60 cycle. One appears to be in very good condition, while the other one has a deteriorated cord. Neither transformer has been plugged in.

Please note: We have not tested any of the model trains on the website, as I unfortunately lack the knowledge to test them without damaging them and I do not have the necessary equipment. I do not know the history of this particular set, so, I can only provide my visual observations.

I try to describe the items on this site as accurately as possible; however since most of the items are either antique or at best vintage, due to their age, they are sold in "as is" condition. Please examine the pictures and contact us with any questions, to request additional pictures., or to contribute further information, by using the Contact tab on our Home page. We are not experts and always welcome your input.
