Fenton Milk Glass - Portrait of Liberty Plate - First of Four Bicentennial Plates

This plate is one of four exquisite Colonial Milk Glass plate in white bisque. In anticipation of the 1976 U.S. Bicentennial, the General Federation of women's Clubs arranged with renowned manufacturer of hand made glass, Fenton Art Glass Company to produce a four plate series with scenes from America's past sculptured into the face of the glass. One plate was released each January beginning January 1, 1973. Then, on July 4th 1976, the moulds were broken and production was forever stopped.

This is Plate Number One, Issued January 1, 1973 and it depicts Patrick Henry issuing his ultimatum with rhe famous words, "Give me liberty, or give me death." This plate is in new condition and comes with its original box. It measures 8-1/4" in diameter.

The face of each plate depicts a scene from history. On the reverse side, appears a description of the historical scene and the individuals portrayed, along with the Issue date and validation information and the Fenton logo. I regret that these plates were such a challenge for this amateur photographer. The photos do not do justice to these extraordinary plates. We have all four of the plates in this series, and I think they would look spectacular displayed against a bold colored wall.

I try to describe the items on this site as accurately as possible; however since most of the items are either antique or at best vintage, due to their age, they are sold in "as is" condition.
