|| Antique Cast Iron Dachshund Boot Scraper or Doorstop
This Cast Iron Boot Scraper is a great accent piece for your front or back porch, while it serves a very valuable purpose. You and your guests can remove that extra snow, ice, mud or whatever from shoes before entering the house. These were very popular in the 1900 to 1920 era and are definitely coming back into fashion, since I have seen several new ones for sale recently. .
This guy is definitely one of the old scrapers, and has guarded the porch of a couple of generations of our family. He is a Dachshund, of course, and has a great look with his sturdy short legs, long nose and curled tail. He has only a hint of rust on the bottom of his feet and near where the scraper joins his body. He has many years of use left. A wonderful old piece in exceptionally nice condition.
He measures 14-1/2 inches long by 5 inches tall, and 5-1/2 wide from paw to paw of his front stance.
As with most of the cast iron items we find, there is not a hint of a manufacturer's mark that we can find.
An interesting addition to any collection of vintage cast iron items, or doorstops, plus, since he weighs a hefty 7-1/2 pounds, he is not about to blow off of your porch in a strong wind. (That we know from experience - the porch chairs move but not this little guy.)
We have cast iron items, ranging from sad irons, to cookware, cobblers tools, banks and a fun squirrel nutcracker. If you love vintage cast iron, these are great pieces of yesteryear. Check out the Kitchenware category and Banks categories.
I try to describe the items on this site as accurately as possible; however, due to their age, they are sold in "as is" condition. Please contact us with any questions, or to request additional pictures, or contribute further information, by using the Contact tab on our Home page.
