LIONEL #804 Tanker Car four-wheel - Pre-War 0 Gauge

The Lionel 800 Series cars boast very nice detailing, as well as bright colors and brass accents. According to our Greenberg's book, this series was first introduced in 1915, and was manufactured until about 1942. The cars in this series were built primarily on either a 6-1/2" or an 8-7/8" frame, although there were a few with a 5-1/2" frame. The have deeply embossed sides and bright colors, similar to their counterparts in the larger, standard gauge size. We are currently offering several cars in the 800 series for sale.

This car is the Lionel #804 Tanker Car. It is one of the Four-Wheel Freight Cars that Lionel produced during this period. It has a wonderful aluminum colored tank with a black frame. It has late series brass plates, handrails and ladders, one large dome and two small domes, copper handrails, no decals, and latch couplers on both ends. The plates read "Lionel Lines" and "No. 804". They are present on both sides of the car. TheLionel #804 measures 6-1/2" long by 2" wide by 3-1/2" high. It was manufactured between 1929 and 1934.

Looking at the underside, there is no sticker present. There is some rust present on the trucks, and there is a small dent visible on one side; however the car is in nice overall condition.

Considering the estimated 70+ years age of this car, I am amazed at the nice condition. These were designed for children to play with, yet it has survived without the amount of rust and dents and damage one would expect. If it has been repaired or restored in any way, it has been with the utmost care.

Please note: We have not tested any of the model trains on the website, as I unfortunately lack the knowledge to test them without damaging them, and I do not have the necessary track or transformers. I can say that the trains currently on this site came from a single collection in my family, and the owner would have likely maintained them. However, I must state that they are sold "as is". I try very hard to accurately describe the items on this site. However, if you have any questions, please email us by using the Contact tab on our Home page. I will be happy to provide additional pictures and answer any questions you may have.
