R.S. Prussia --Small Bowl -- 1870 to 1914
This exceptionally nice example of R.S. Prussia Procelain is a small bowl, measuring just 5-1/2" in diameter and 1-1/2" deep. It bears the R.S. Prussia mark with the wreath and star, indicative of the period from 1870 to 1914.

I am not sure just what it is about the lovely pieces of Porcelain from Prussia and Germany that make them so appealing. They generally are of a thin porcelain construction, with some type of scalloped shape and intricate scallops all along the edges. Apparently there were numerous molds, similar yet each distinctive. I understand they were often purchased for decorative purposes primarily, or for an elegant serving piece for bonbons or teacakes, etc.

The designs were often applied with a transfer and then the enameling or gilt hand painted. It seems the pattern variety is endless, which adds to the decorative appeal, where a display can include similar shaped items each with its unique appearance. The decorations were most often very soft and delicate in color and nearly always floral.

This piece is in the nicest of any of our R.S. pieces. I do not see the wearing away of the pattern that is often present on these very old pieces. I have not found any sign of cracks, nicks or chips. It is a truly lovely piece. If you would like more information, please contact us.
