LIONEL Model 380E Electric Engine Standard Gauge
Lionel # 380E Electric 0-4-0 Locomotive. This engine was manufactured during the period 1926 to 1929. It apparently differed from its predecessor, the #380, in that it had a pendulum-type reversing unit. In all honesty I have no idea what that actually involves, but that is the information I found through research. The plate on the underside of the engine reads, "Lionel Super Motor, For Standard Track, The Lionel Corporation, NY"

This engine is in exceptionally nice condition, without any obvious rust or damage. It does bear the TCA Train Collectors Association sticker, on the underside, that indicates "Refinished Tinplate" . I understand that this would mean the engine shell has been professionally restored. In its restored condition it is a wonderful example of this rather uncommon locomotive. It is maroon in color with brass plates that read "Lionel" and "380". There is a red "E" on the brass doors. It has Cast Headlights, a bell on the top, and Brass and Nickel trim. The coupler has a latch system, with a slot ( for the hook type coupler ). Unfortunately, there is only one coupler on this engine, although the opening is there to attach another one.

I love it because these engines appear to not know whether they are coming or going. I am amazed that this engine has survived in such nice condition, considering that these were toys and would have been played with by eager children. However, this seems to be exceptionally clean with only minimal signs of use. It displays beautifully.

Please note: We have not tested any of the model trains on the website, as I unfortunately lack the knowledge to test them without damaging them, and I do not have the necessary track or transformers. I can say that the trains currently on this site came from a single collection in my family, and the owner would have likely maintained them. However, I must state that they are sold "as is". I try very hard to accurately describe the items on this site. However, if you have any questions, please email us by using the Contact tab on our Home page. I will be happy to provide additional pictures and answer any questions you may have.
