Antique Venetian Opalescent Floral Perfume Bottle - 1920's

This item is truly a lovely example of the older Venetian glass that was so very popular during the 1920's. Although it has been in my family for many years, to me it was merely one of my mother's favorite glass pieces. We are in the process of researching this piece further, in hopes of pinpointing its precise origin and maker.

I did present this item to a knowledgeable glass appraiser a few years ago, and was assured that it was in fact Venetian glass, hand blown and what is referred to as opalescent, with reference to the "skim milk" swirls of white on the inside of the otherwise clear bottle. The rim and base edge are tinged with the palest blue. There are eight rolls in the body of the bottle and the neck area has a smooth ridged swirl effect.

The entire bottle, with its stopper stands a full 9" tall. The bottle alone is 6-1/2", with a 3" base diameter and 1-1/2" at the neck collar. The stopper is 8-1/2" long. There are no markings at all on this piece, which of course is very often the case with blown glass items.

The graceful glass stopper extends clear to the bottom of the bottle. The tip still bears just a hint of scent that was stored in it many years ago, as there still remains a dried drop or two inside the bottle. I have not washed the inside for that reason. The stopper is topped with beautifully formed and applied glass leaves and flowers. There are three flowers among a nest of leaves. On the back side of the stopper, it appears that the tip of one leaf is broken off. I did not see this until I was very closely examining the piece. I was assured by the "expert" who looked at it, that even with this minor damage, the piece should be worth well over our listed price here. Please look at the last picture to see this flaw.

This bottle displays beautifully, capturing any nearby light. It is in especially lovely condition, with the only exception being the missing leaf part mentioned above.

I try to describe the items on this site as accurately as possible; however since most of the items are either antique or at least vintage, due to their age, they are sold in "as is" condition.
