ASAHI Pentax K-1000 35mm film camera -- Asahi 50mm lens plus Hoya Skylight filter The Pentax K-1000 35mm camera was designed, in the mid 1970's for just who I was, an amateur photographer. Many instructors recommended this camera for their students, who needed to learn the basics, and be able to make manual selections, rather than assume the camera would get it right. An additional advantage was the ability to add other lenses. I have also listed on this site the 135mm lens that I purchased for telephoto use, and only used once. Also, you will see listed a 2x Converter, that I did utilize.

Proof that the Pentax K-1000 camera was pretty much the ideal camera, lies in the fact that Pentax continued to produce this model for more than 20 years. Production was ceased in 1997, likely due to the mad switch to digital by most of the "casual or amateur photographers".

I am NOT talented when it comes to photography, or should I say photographic equipment. However, this camera, as I often said, was "idiot-proof". It took beautiful pictures and with the exception of my subjects having to wait while I adjusted the manual focus, it was perfect. Well, that and the cost of processing so many rolls of film. Now that I have moved to the digital world, I often miss the options of this camera.

We will call this camera, Pentax camera "A", because I do have a second similar Pentax camera on this site. It will be listed as Pentax camera "B". Camera "A" was my personal camera, and after I bragged about it at length, my father purchased one, although it was I believe a slightly newer model and he selected a different lens.

This camera bears the ASAHI Pentax name on the front body of the camera, Asahi Opt. Co. on the rear of the body, and Asahi Optical Co. SMC Pentax-M on the lens rim. I added a HOYA Skylight filter for my outdoor photos, and it is included with this camera. The original strap was replaced with a wide comfortable swivel webbing one. The condition of this camera is exceptionally clean and I must admit its use was limited. It was always stored in a well insulated case indoors.

I try to describe the items on this site as accurately as possible; however since most of the items are either antique or at best vintage, due to their age, they are sold in "as is" condition.
